Rs 1439 crore heroin seized near Gujrat's Kandla port

205.6 kg heroin worth Rs 1439 crore has been seized by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence near Gujarat's Kandla port. As per report the importer has arrested from Punjab in this connection following and extensive search operation.
According to a senior police official's report, the contraband was recovered from one of the 17 containers which arrived form Iran to Kndla port between September-October last year.
Earlier in a report the Gujarat anti-terrorist squad had announced that in a joint operation with Directorate of Revenue Intelligence(DRI) seized over 200 kg of heroin worth 1300 crore.
In a statement DRI said "Based on intelligence report jointly with Gujarat ATS officers they are currently examining a consignment, imported by and Uttarakhand-based firm at Kndla port."
The consignment arrived form Iran's Bandar Abbas port to Kandla port. The consignment was imported in 17 containers having 10,318 bags, had a gross weight of 394 metric tonnes and was declared as "gypsum powder", as per the report.
After DRI's search investigation the importer was arrested from a small village of Punjab.
At first he was not found at the registered address in Uttarakhand, then DRI conducted searches across the country to find the importer who was changing his location. Eventually he caught by the DRI officers under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
